Teide National Park, in La Orotava (Tenerife), is the stage of testing a robot that is designed to be part of future space missions to Mars, Mercury or the Moon, where a wealth of information sent to Earth , as reported by the Tenerife Town Council.

The British company Astrium, part of the project ProVisG (Planetary Robotics Vision Ground Processing) together with various European and American partners, are experiencing these days with a number of systems integrated into the robot "rover Bridget ', already tested in 2006 in the same places. "The similarities between the floor of the Park and the surface of Mars have scientists and engineers who wish to pursue experiments to move the island", explained the Consistory.

ProVisG The project, which is funded by the European Commission aims to develop optical instruments with which to take pictures of other planets with unprecedented accuracy and in just a few hours, though at present this process usually takes weeks. Similarly, working for the robotic vehicle to move independently and recognize the various obstacles on the ground, allowing you quickly reach from one place to another.

"This project is basic not only to acquire a better knowledge of other planets, but also for the development of future manned missions, which may provide three-dimensional images and animations of the places you will go."

Astrium - the leading European company in the field of space transportation, civil and military and manned space activities, as well as the worldwide leader in the design and manufacture of satellite systems - is responsible for coordinating the project field tests, collecting for it designed by different teams participating and integrating them into the robot.

The company has moved to La Orotava to a team of twenty people representing the various partners, including four engineers led by chief engineer ProVisG, Lester Waugh, who are being carried out the experiments. The tests are conducted these days, as happened in 2006.
